Harmony Between Humanity and Nature

自然是生命之母，是人类赖以生存和发展的根基。人与自然是生命共同体。人类应该以自然为根，敬畏自然、尊重自然、顺应自然、保护自然。保护自然环境就是保护人类，建设生态文明就是造福人类。

Nature is the mother of life, and the foundations for survival and development of humanity. Humanity and nature form a community of life. Human beings must revere, respect, accommodate and protect nature. To protect nature is to protect human beings, and to build an eco-civilization is to benefit humanity.

生态兴则文明兴，生态衰则文明衰。生态环境变化直接影响文明兴衰演替。历史教训表明，在整个发展过程中，不能只讲索取不讲投入，不能只讲发展不讲保护，不能只讲利用不讲修复。人类只有遵循自然规律才能有效防止在开发利用自然上走弯路，人类对大自然的伤害最终会伤及人类自身，这是无法抗拒的规律。

Civilization thrives if the eco-environment is healthy, and declines if it deteriorates. The rise and fall of a civilization hinge on eco-environmental changes. Humanity must not take from nature without giving back, develop without protection, and consume without restoration. Only by observing the laws of nature can humanity avoid costly blunders. Any harm we inflict on nature will eventually return to haunt us. This is a reality we have to face.

中共十九大将 “ 坚持人与自然和谐共生 ” 作为新时代坚持和发展中国特色社会主义的一个基本方略，提出坚持节约优先、保护优先、自然恢复为主的方针，形成节约资源和保护环境的空间格局、产业结构、生产方式、生活方式，还自然以宁静、和谐、美丽。中国主张要像保护眼睛一样保护自然和生态环境，推动形成人与自然和谐共生新格局。

The report to the 19th CPC National Congress made achieving harmony between humanity and nature one of the 14 points of the basic policy that underpins the CPC's endeavors to uphold and develop socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era. Acting on the principles of prioritizing resource conservation and environmental protection and letting nature restore itself, China will endeavor to develop spatial configurations, industrial structures, and ways of work and life, all of which are resource-saving and eco-friendly, so as to restore the serenity, harmony and beauty of nature. There is a saying in China that people should protect the eco-environment as they protect their eyes, and achieve harmony between humanity and nature.

Respecting, Accommodating and Protecting Nature

生态环境是关系党的使命宗旨的重大政治问题，也是关系民生的重大社会问题。中共十八大提出树立尊重自然、顺应自然、保护自然的生态文明理念。

Protecting the eco-environment is a major political issue related to the mission and purpose of the CPC as it is a major social issue impacting people's wellbeing. At its 18th National Congress, the CPC called on the people to respect, accommodate and protect nature.

尊重自然，是人与自然相处时应秉持的科学态度，即人对自然应怀有敬畏之心、感恩之心，尊重自然界的存在、再生和循环能力，而绝不能凌驾其上。

Respecting nature is a sound attitude to adopt. Humanity must revere nature and be grateful to nature, respect nature and its capacity for revival and circulation, instead of attempting to dominate nature.

顺应自然，是人与自然相处时应遵循的基本原则，即人要顺应自然的客观规律，按照客观规律推动经济社会发展。

Accommodating nature is a basic principle to observe. Humanity must follow the ways of nature and the objective laws governing economic and social development.

保护自然，是人与自然相处时应承担的重要责任，即人向自然界索取生存发展之需时，应主动呵护自然、回报自然，保护生态系统。

Protecting nature is a responsibility to take. When taking what we need for survival, we should cherish and repay nature, and protect ecosystems.

美丽中国

A Beautiful China

美丽中国是生态文明建设的重要目标，也是实现中华民族伟大复兴中国梦的重要内容。中共十八大把生态文明建设纳入中国特色社会主义事业 “ 五位一体 ” 总体布局，明确提出大力推进生态文明建设，努力建设美丽中国，实现中华民族永续发展。这标志着中国共产党对中国特色社会主义规律认识的进一步深化，表明了中国共产党加强生态文明建设的坚定意志和坚强决心。中共十九大深刻指出，生态文明建设是关系中华民族永续发展的根本大计，明确提出从 2035 年到本世纪中叶，在基本实现现代化的基础上，再奋斗 15 年，把中国建成富强民主文明和谐美丽的社会主义现代化强国。

A beautiful China is a major goal of the country's effort to build an eco-civilization. It is also an important part of the grand picture of national rejuvenation. The 18th National Congress of the CPC listed eco-environmental progress along with economic, political, cultural and social progress in the Five-sphere Integrated Plan as the goals for building Chinese socialism, vowing to promote eco-environmental progress, build a beautiful China and achieve sustainable development of the Chinese nation. This also showed the CPC's deeper understanding of socialist development and its firm resolution to build an eco-civilization. The 19th National Congress of the CPC stated that building an eco-civilization is vital to sustaining the Chinese nation's development. It set the goal of developing China into a great modern socialist country that is prosperous, strong, democratic, culturally advanced, harmonious and beautiful by the mid-21st century, after achieving basic modernization by 2035.

中国梦的实现不以牺牲环境为代价，在发展经济的同时，保护好生态环境。建设美丽中国，有利于中国的长远发展，也将助推全球可持续发展，更有助于实现人类共同的梦想 —— 保护美丽地球、建设绿色家园。

The Chinese Dream cannot be realized at the expense of the environment. A beautiful China will not only benefit the Chinese people, but also promote sustainable development around the world. It will help with the building of a beautiful earth and a better homeland for all.
